About the Ohara Institute

The Ohara Institute for Social Research, founded in 1919, is one of the oldest research institutes in the fields of social science in Japan. The institute took its name from its founder, Magosaburo Ohara, a business magnate from Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. In 1949, the institute became affiliated with Hosei University.

Poster Exhibitions

The Ohara Institute owns about 2700 posters of the pre-1945 period and 1400 posters of the post-1945 period. Poster Exhibitions show some of these posters' images and English translation of texts in the "Slide Show" format.

The Ohara Memorabilia Collection

The Memorabilia Collection exhibits flags, badges, banners and other items connected with organizations and famous persons.
